Dano,
Last week I bought myself a Vulcan 800 Classic. I went into the dealership with the intention of getting a Drifter. But I didn't like how they switched to a solo seat and lots of chrome for 2001. I also disliked the limited (none yet actually) luggage rack and saddlebag options. The classic looked great, and the deep fenders, although not as deep as the Drifter, looked classy and gave easier access to cleaning the wheels and adjusting the chain.
Speaking of chains, I don't mind it actually. A shaft drive would be nice, but all vulcans can be upgraded to a Belt from parts from Brooks Machine for $425 plus $150 labor.
I also have a Scottoiler (automatic chain lubrication device) installed on the Classic, and it looks great. Easier to maintain the chain no, and needs fewer adjustments.
I love the Classic, you can't go wrong though, with any Vulvan in my opinion. (you can also get a 4-year unlimited mileage warranty).
Take care ang good luck with your decision.
